My last sermon I suggested a New Year’s resolution that would be worth keeping – getting rid of unforgiveness from our lives. Unforgiveness tends to imprison us while we think we taking out revenge on the other person. One of the Scriptures I used during that sermon was Hebrews 12:14-17 which cautions us against allowing a bitter root from growing up in our lives. Unforgiveness may be evidence of the existence of a bitter root in our lives, but there are also other bitter roots that are just as dangerous. This morning we’re going to explore the origin of this bitter root reference in the Old Testament and find out how that might apply to our lives today.
